I’m a very home based person, there’s nothing I like more than being wrapped up in front of the tv surrounded by all the lovely things I’ve picked up over the years, so I thought that I’d start to let you into some of my favourite things. I feel like my space reflects me perfectly, and so by showing you some of the items I keep around you can get to know me a little bit better.
I don’t collect many things – I don’t like the idea of having too much stuff just lingering around. Records are the exception to that rule, I don’t have to many but I also don’t intend on stopping buying them anytime soon. Like any sane person I stream most of my music, so I can listen anywhere – but when I get home, and have the time, I have to put a record on.
There’s something about the entire process that I love – It’s not like just tapping shuffle on a playlist. It’s almost a ritual, find an album, take out the record, clean it off and drop the stylus. It makes you listen to it properly, acknowledge parts of the music that you’ve never noticed before, and that for me is complete magic. There’s nothing quite like just laying down on your bed with some really loud music to clear your head after a busy day of working, and it just feels right coming from a record.
One of my favourite records at the moment is In Between Dreams by Jack Johnson, it’s an incredibly relaxed album and lovely to play along in the background while getting some jobs done. I love it even more listening through headphones – I was surprised the first time I did, there was so much extra detail in the sound, it just seems so much smoother and more relaxing as a record. If you like this album, then do yourself a favour and pick this up!
I hope you’ve enjoyed the first instalment in this new feature on bromeosin, I hope to explain more of my Favourite Things as time goes by, so you can get to know me a little bit better.
